Letter from An Independent

When Jamie posted an invitation on Facebook is one one that I couldn’t pass by. It wasn’t  any old invitation either. It wasn’t to a party, networking event, sporting event, conference, or any type of face to face gathering. It was for the details of her next life adventure. All I needed to see was “adventure” and as one who totally embraces adventure (how else could I leave one job without a new one and move cross country, not back to Philadelphia or “home”, within a year?) I wanted the details. As per Jamie’s request, I sent her an inbox message. When I read her response I just had to share it with you all, with her permission of course. It’s a letter sharing her life plans, how they changed, how she stayed open to change, how her faith sustained her through the changes and committed to the changes- all stuff independent spirits are made of. You can’t LIVE if you aren’t willing to make decisions for and by yourself.  May her story as written to me below be one of inspiration, encouragement, and joy. May you too reach out to and clasp the hands of faith and courage to take the next steps for your life’s adventure even if it isn’t the dream you had for yourself when you were 3 or 33, your family and friends don’t get it, or you don’t have the money in the bank (you don’t need a dollar amount to dream). #IndieSpirit xxoo

“Hi!!!! I hope that all is well with you! I love seeing all your posts about life, and I hope that you are enjoying every moment of your thirties!

So, I’ve been asked to serve as the Elementary School Principal at Crossroads Christian Academy (CCA), an international Christian school and ministry of Crossroads Bible Church, just outside of Panama City, Panama. CCA is a K4-12th grade college preparatory school that aims to develop students in the following areas: academically, socially, and spiritually. I will be supervising over fifteen teachers/aides at the elementary level, using the gifts and talents that God has given me to lead, mentor, and reach the local community. If you’d like more information about the school, you may visit www.ccapanama.org.

About three years ago, God began to place the desire of pursuing a Master’s Degree- something that I’ll admit was never part of my plan, but God certainly does have a sense of humor, and provided what was needed to begin my studies through an online university. With the help and encouragement from family, friends, and colleagues, but most of all, God’s continuous provision and direction, I was able to graduate on the 30th of May of this year with a Masters in Educational Administration- God completing the work He had started (Phil 1:6).

Undeniably, the past year has been full of unanticipated events, beautiful adventures, and life lessons that pushed me to seek something different, always trusting that God has my back and wants the absolute best for me. With this in mind, I decided to apply for work internationally, specifically a Spanish-speaking country where I can be used to connect with the local community. At first, I thought it would be as a teacher, but again, God surprised me and opened the door to begin gaining experience in educational administration. I believe that God alone opened this door of opportunity and potential experience. My life verse- Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths” has been evident throughout my life, and certainly in the past few months.

I hope and pray that God will lead you to do what He has called you to. He equips those He calls and is faithful. Remember that!!!

Thankfully, the school provides housing and local health insurance. I will be receiving a stipend, but will essentially be going as a part-time missionary with the Resourcing Christian Education International (RCE). If you’d like more information about RCE, please visit http://www.rce-international.org. There is a list of partner schools all around the world- looking for people willing to serve. Just in case you’re interested or you know someone that is!

My goal is to raise $800.00/month and I’m reaching out to family & friends, anyone willing to be part of this ministry. Donations made to RCE are tax deductible. I appreciate any support- most of all prayers for provision, a great work environment, friends to make, and a local church to be plugged into. I will be leaving on the 20th of July, which is just around the corner, so you can imagine how crazy things are getting as the date approaches. But, thankfully, I’ve learned to take one day at a time and just believe. If you’d be interested in donating, please let me know and I’ll send you the donor form to use with my name and RCE number.

Please, please keep in touch and if you think of me, just say a little prayer.   I plan on creating a newsletter/blog for others to be part of this process with me. I want to thank you for your friendship and encouragement throughout the years. You are loved and appreciated!”
